2008 SCENES OF SYRACUSE CALENDAR

ADDS HISTORIC PERSPECTIVE IN ‘TWO’ VERSIONS

The 16th edition of The 2008 Scenes of Syracuse Wall Calendar – published by Reflected Images, Inc. will – for the first time – offer two versions of this popular calendar. Each calendar version presents striking, frameable photographs of Syracuse and Central New York, and – also for the first time – each calendar will feature photographs of and information about historically important attractions, landmarks and architecture from the archives of the Onondaga Historical Association Museum and Research Center (OHA). The calendars will be printed on high quality, durable cover stock in four-color to set off “the unprecedented beauty” of the photographs. The calendar size is 12.50 inches wide by 18.25 inches high.

“By using historic images from OHA’s Research Center, we believe the calendar(s) will be more useful, educational and appealing to those who purchase them,” said Norma Jean Young, president and publisher of Reflected Images. “We also believe strongly in the mission of preserving our local history,” Young added. “That’s why we are donating a portion of all calendar corporate and community sponsorships, and consumer sales of the calendars, to benefit OHA’s programming.”

“OHA is grateful to Reflected Images for highlighting in its 2008 calendars a small sample from the thousands of historic photographs and images housed in our Research Center,” said OHA Interim Executive Director Thomas Hunter. “These photographs can encourage and inspire school children and adults to more fully understand and appreciate our local history.”

According to Young, “I intentionally photograph scenes with no people in them, because this embraces and reflects the backdrop, canvas or fabric of life where we all live, worship, work and play. This means that the best days to get city photographs are Saturdays and Sundays.”

Calendar Version I is a ‘business – to – business” version in which a different Syracuse and Central New York business is ‘spotlighted’ each month in an area at the bottom of the calendar page. “Our Patrons are the backbone of this project,” Young says, “and without them publishing the calendar wouldn’t be possible. These businesses range from small to large operations, and we are extremely grateful to each one of them for their support.”

Also appearing each month in this version are thumbnails of historic photos and sketches with captions identifying key details – all from OHA’s archives.
