We have added a new section to the OHA permanent museum exhibitions webpage for some of the very interesting and evocative comments we have been receiving after museum visitors have viewed the Freedom Bound – The Story of Syracuse & The Underground Railroad exhibition. You may see them here. More comments will be added in the future.
The Featured Artifact section of the OHA website has been updated with information about the First Pompey Academy, including photos of the model created by William H. Stevens in the years 1871-1874.

This amazing framed painting The First Ovariotomy was painted by the artist George Kasson Knapp. After you read the information written by Tom Hunter, Assistant Director / Curator of Collections, you’ll see just how amazing this is!
And in case you missed it, the first Artifact of the Month is the Frederick Douglass Daguerreotype and Autograph. This daguerreotype is the earliest known one to exist of Frederick Douglass. You’ll want to read about these interesting artifacts!

I’m really excited about all of these articles, because I participated as a volunteer at Central New York History Day (a very exciting day!), and I helped start the Artifact of the Month by searching the OHAM&RC files to help compile the information about Frederick Douglass for the OHAM&RC website.
